ICAMH points system - European-Amateur halter classes
At the AMHA shows that are being organized by ICAMH, there are several sorts of classes for entry.
The “A” classes are approved by AMHA. These classes are open to all participants.
The AMHA itself keeps score of the points gained in the approved open AMHA classes. For this, see the showrules in the AMHA website.
Entry in the “E” classes (the European-Amateur halter classes) is restricted to those meeting the following conditions:
Horse must be owned by a European, who is a member of the ICAMH.
Horse must be in Europe for at least two (2) months.
Horse must be AMHA registered. AMHA rules will be followed.
ICAMH points system is valid for these classes.
For participants in the “E” classes a seperate points system has been developed, of which ICAMH keeps score.
The ICAMH very much likes everybody to have fun in showing, and that everybody has a fair chance to go home with a nice ribbon or cup. The points system is there to make sure that handlers cannot go on showing endlessly, along with showing in the “A” classes, in the “E” classes. With this system, a healthy flow towards the “A” classes is being enhanced of those who do not qualify as European-Amateur any more.
The rules
These are the ICAMH points system rules (dated 10 May 2008):
Only in the AMHA European-Amateur halter classes, points are awarded.
The handler is being awarded the points, not the horse.
The winner of a European-Amateur halter class gets 2 points. The person in second place in such a class gets 1 point.
These points are only awarded as such with a minimum of 4 participating horses in the class. With 3 horses, only the first place counts for 1 point.
A total amount of 15 points means end of the European-Amateur status. This means that, as from the next show, you may not also participate in the European-Amateur classes, but you are obliged to move on to the open classes. The horses in combination with whom the points were gained can still be shown in the European-Amateur classes, but may not be handled in these classes by this ex-European-Amateur.
The European-Amateur status is also terminated with winning the title “grand champion” or “reserve champion” in an AMHA open class. This is only valid, however, with a minimum of 5 participating horses in this championship class.
