The ICAMH is proud of being appointed by AMHA in the USA, after having succesfully organised the 1st edition in their name, to host also the 2nd official AMHA European Championship Show!

Date and location

The AMHA European Championship Show 2010 has taken place on 11-12 September and was held at  Horse Event!

There is no other equestrian event in the Benelux to match Horse Event, which saw well over 26.000 visitors this year. It offers the ideal platform to enlarge your own branding and that of the breed.

This year, Horse Event was dominated by the World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Kentucky. This event in the American Capital city of horse sports was the main theme of Horse Event and highlighted in the program, catering and the furnishing. Especially suitable surroundings for promotion of the American Miniature Horse among an enormous potential of visitors who almost all have a direct relationship with horses!

Horse Event, and thus the 2010 AMHA European Championship Show, was being held at the professional accommodation of the Dutch Equestrian Centre: Nederlands Hippisch Centrum, Bruggenseweg 11a, 5752 SC Deurne, the Netherlands.

Judges

The AMHA European Championship Show was judged by a panel of three AMHA carded judges from the USA: Janet Barber, Jim Congleton and Gordon Odegard.

All three of the judges’ cards/scores were used to determine class winners.

Three sets of points have been awarded. Points were tabulated as set forth in PA-015 in the 2010 AMHA Official Rule Book. Total points earned at the European AMHA Championship Show are valid for the 2010 World Championship Show qualification and for all AMHA titles and awards.

Buffet

The evening between both show days was filled pleasantly with a sociable buffet.

This offered participants and spectators a wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends and acquaintances in a relaxed atmosphere, and newcomers to the breed a chance to meet and mingle with the people in the American Miniature Horse world.

Auction

At the 2010 AMHA European Championship Show, an exciting auction has been held to the benefit of the ICAMH Gelding Fund.

This auction raised well over two-and-a-half thousand Euros for the Gelding Fund, for which all involved deserve a loud Thank You!

"Congratulations on a Wonderful Show"

Yes, congratulations on an extremely successful AMHA European Regional Miniature Horse Show.

All the reports from the judges was nothing but complimentary. Comments on the management and organization of the show, the show program, and the way the show was conducted. ALL BLUE RIBBONS for your work ………..

It is especially good to hear judges who were excited to see so many thousands of people viewing the horses, as this has become very, very rare in the United States. It is those spectators that are the next potential buyers, breeders and exhibitors. It is those spectators that are the potential members of ICAMH and AMHA.

The judges commented to me on the quality of the horses, the quality of the presentations of the horses, making comparisons to the US regional shows, and simply saying, the European Regional Championship show out classed the US shows. The strength in the sponsorships demonstrated the hard work the ICAMH show committee put into the show, definitely unequaled here in the US, even at the World Show, when it comes to ratio of individual sponsors in relationship to the number of members in the US. Great job with this phase of the show.

The show program became a “keeper” something to put on the shelf and use as a future reference to creating a benchmark for measuring the progress of the breed in Europe. The overall image and quality of the show program was tops.

The number of horses and entries increased over last year, by all reports, over 20%. This type of growth in one years time is very important. And it reflects on the fact ICAMH represents members from all over Europe.

This show represents one of the few times the judges have commented to me on a horse show by saying, “We want to write an article for the MHW.” They believed in the show and the success to take the effort to do this. I know in the past the MHW has not looked favorably upon such articles from outside of the US, but a show of this quality can turn the tide.

And not only was it an extremely successful Regional Miniature Horse Show for the breed, but it was a tremendously successful event for introducing potential buyers to the American Miniature Horse. Holding the Regional Miniature Horse Show at such a venue may have presented some challenges, but the long term payback will be measureable. I recall discussions in October 2009 with the AMHA President’s mission to Europe, and members wanting a venue to expose the breed to more public, well, I think you have found the answer. We could see on the webcam the thousands of people standing and passing by the show ring each day. I have judged many Miniature Horse Shows in Europe, and based upon my observations, the spectator attendance at this show far surpasses all other shows, even the multi-breed event in Oudenaarde, Belgium.

And by hosting such a show, ICAMH has demonstrated its leadership among the AMHA affiliated clubs in Europe. This leadership has doubtlessly created a positive impact for all to see and experience. The exhibitors will tell other potential exhibitors of how ICAMH has produced a fair and balanced show with an audience.

Just work out the “kinks” from the event’s first year at this location, and keep moving forward. I have participated in the European Reining Championships and Driving Competitions at this same venue, and each of those events did not have the same high attendance. Believe me, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

And always remember, showing horses to one another is not breed promotion, “it is like preaching to the choir, they will always be there”.

CONGRATULATIONS on a job well done.
